A Year Later.....

January 29, 2010 - We had just finished loading up two of the largest U-Haul trucks and a trailer when the sleet began to fall at our Northeastern Georgia mountain home that was now as empty as we had found it 11months earlier. It was a cold icy trek back to our old neighborhood in the North Texas suburb of Castle Hills.

January 30, 2010 - We thought we would only be leasing for six months, so we unpacked very little. It was a very cold day to be unloading trucks.

October 2010 - Made an offer and it was accepted on a home in Castle Hills. We were excited that we might be in our new home by Thanksgiving. We soon learned that the house had a history of foundation problems. We didn't want to take that on, so we terminated the contract.

November 2010 - We set our sites on Prosper, Texas the 5th best place to live in the Metroplex as rated by D Magazine. A bigger yard and hopes of a great school district sounded wonderful. We secured a lot with a home builder and began trying to decide on a floor plan.

Early December 2010 - We decided we would not build with a builder, but would do it ourselves from scratch. That idea was a bit more than I wanted to take on, but we would save a lot of money. Meanwhile, I was keeping my eye out for pre owned homes and I found one I thought we should check out.

Early January 2011 - Our offer was accepted on the pre owned home we looked at before Christmas. Closing date was set for February 8, 2011.

February 1- 4, 2011 - All of the Senkels were iced in at home. Glad we had gone to the grocery store on Sunday and stocked up on our weekly supply of 5 gallons of milk. God is good.

February 8, 2011 - Didn't close on the house. The weather had set many things behind in North Texas, our closing was no exception.

February 9, 2011 - Another snow and ice day. All the Senkels were home again. We prepared to have our good friends Rick, Paula, Emma and Ethan Scott over to join us for dinner. They are missionaries with Cadence International and are preparing for their assignment in Italy.

February 10, 2011 - Very cold morning. My van would not start. Scrambled to find a ride for the girls to school. Our wonderful friend, Jason Nash, drove over and gave the van a jump. It worked the rest of the day. Picked up Gram Senkel from the airport after getting the girls from school. Received email that said we should close next Tuesday. At bedtime, Lexi asked if we came from apes. She had read that in a dinosaur book in her classroom. She also wondered if that was why her first grade teacher had said we were animals. We had my laptop in hand, so I said let's pull up the Bible and we will read what the Bible has to say about that. From the account in Genesis, it clearly states that God made us in His image. We read that He made us differently than he made the animals. He "formed" man and "breathed the breath of life into his nostrils". God didn't do that with the animals. God made us to rule over the animals not to be animals.
I know if Lexi hadn't read this in school, she would have heard it else where since evolution is presented as a fact in our country. Thankfully, she knew that it didn't sound like what she had been taught at home or in church. While my "silent" first reaction to these types of questions is one of disgust with our world today, I know that she will learn sooner than later, that the world is against us, just as Jesus said it would be and that our trusted source of knowledge is God's word. I told her that people who don't want to submit to God, have to come up with an explanation for life apart from a creator, evolution has been there explanation.

I can't believe she's learning about evolution already. We've had to have those discusions just from watching the discovery channel and all of their talk about how animals have "adapted". I'm glad you were ready with an answer.

I hope things thaw out for y'all soon!!

I'm always thankful that Eddie tells me about things he hears at school so I can clear up any lies he is being fed there and back it up with truth from the Bible. Good job, Lexi, for coming to you with her question. :)

You can always call me to take the girls or pick them up! We need to get together after school before you move. Want to try next Friday?

wow. i can't believe that for the second winter in a row...you are getting more snow in texas than we have seen in georgia.

what a blessing that lexie asked you about what she was learning and that you were able to show her what The Word has to say.
